Charline and Jamie Barger of Jacksonville, Florida.
This is the web site for Charline Barger and Jamie Barger, a.k.a. Charline Burga and James Barger.
Announcing Ruby Elizabeth Barger - June 7, 2007
Charline and Jamie Barger are happy to announce the birth of Ruby Elizabeth Barger, at 11:13 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2007. Weight: 9 lbs. 12 oz. Length: 23 in.
Charline gave birth to Ruby at home, in whirlpool that we rented for the occasion. It all went very smoothly, in much less time than the birth of our first child, Jude. So, Charline was very pleased. Baby and mother are doing great.
As you can see in the photo here, we took Ruby out to Metropolitan Park for Jacksonville's Fourth of July celebrations. The whole family had a great time. The fireworks got a bit too loud for Jude's taste, and he asked if we could leave after a few mintues, but he said he liked them anyway.
Home for Sale in Historic Springfield, Jacksonville, FL
We are selling our house. You can see it at "www.WestNinth.com". Of course, this is a lousy time to try to sell a house, with new homes sales getting tighter every day. We're selling because I (Jamie) am going to law school somewhere in the northeastern U.S.
I've lived in Jacksonville practically all my life, and Charline has been in Florida for most of her life. So, we're both eager to try living in different surroundings.
If you're in the market for a Victorian, Queen Anne style home in the historic district of Springfield in Jacksonville, Florida, you can take a look at our house right now.
There have been some improvements in the past couple years that are described there. For example, there's the completely remodeled kitchen, with Corian counters, a large island, new stainless steel appliances, and professionally installed cabinets.
Call us at (904) 613-8592 or call our real estate agents (Lifestyles Realtors), at (904)384-3338, if you're interested.
Charleston vacation photos
Charline, Jude and Jamie are back from their trip to Charleston. Some of their vacation photos are on-line at Jamie's Flickr photo site.
Jude loved all the animals at Magnolia Plantation, like the peacock you see at the right. He also enjoyed the fish and otters and whatnot at the South Carolina Aquarium.
Charline and Jamie liked all that stuff too. The historic sites in the town were great. The horse-drawn carriage ride through the town was especially nice. And, lunch at Poogan's Porch was great. They'll tell you all about it. Just ask.
Maggie (the canine Barger) stayed at the "Waggin Wheels Doggie Bed & Breakfast while we were gone." We think she enjoyed her stay. We highly recommend Waggin Wheels. This is the second time we've used their service, and they've been great both times.
Rebate Ratings Site
I (Jamie) have created a new rebate complaints web site called Rebate Report Card, where consumers can rate companies on how good they are at paying the rebates they offer on their products. Consumers can post company ratings, including specific complaints about the company, or positive comments, if they want.
The idea is that after enough people submit rebate reports, consumers will be able to use the site to determine whether a rebate is truly a good deal or not.
If it's going to take six months to get the rebate. Or, if the company has a history of using bogus reasons for declining rebate claims, maybe the rebate isn't such a great deal.
Jude and Charline were on the local television news. You can see the story on the First Coast News web site. (New link Feb. 16. They keep changing it.) This was quite a coup after already being featured in a full-page photo feature on the city newspaper (see entry about that below).
UPDATE Feb. 16, 2006: Now you can watch the VIDEO on the web!
The TV news item was a nice piece about the stroller fitness classes Charline attends near the beach. Charline will soon be teaching these "Strollerjize" classes in the San Marco area. You can read about that on her new web site, www.Pramenade.com.
They showed Jude in his stroller and Charline doing her exercises, along with a few other moms who were at the class. The story ran early Tuesday morning, then again, in a slightly different version, Tuesday evening.
And this is a major news program in Jacksonville. It runs on both the ABC and NBC affiliate stations, due a strange arrangement in Jacksonville. And hardly anyone watches the local news on the CBS and FOX affiliate stations. The only real competition is an independent station (Channel 4, WJXT).
Charline and Jude in Jacksonville city newspaper
Charline and Jude were in a photo feature in The Florida Times-Union newspaper Tuesday, October 18, on the first page of the Metro section. You could see the photo on the home page of www.Jacksonville.com the following day, in the Photo Galleries section. You can still see it if you go directly to Tuesday’s Published Photos page and look at the first shot (two moms and their babies doing "baby yoga").
Those are some tiny thumbnail examples of the newest photos over there on the left.
See our Photographs page for other types of photos.
See What We’re Thinking
You can see what's on Jamie's mind at either of his two web logs (blogs). The new one is provided by the good folks over at Google, who run the Blogger/Blogspot sites. The old one is something he created with his own programming and design skills.
You can also read Charline's blog, if she ever gets around to posting anything new there again. She's been pretty busy taking care of Jude and overseeing our kitchen renovation lately.
43 Things and 43 Places - Cool Lists
The Web site "43 Things" is a fun place to get a glimpse of how your fellow humans think. It is simply a collection of lists... lists of things people want to do or have already done.
You'll find some fun features. Give "cheers" to someone if you really like one of their goals. See the goals of people in your town.
Here's Jamie's list on 43Things.com. And, now they've added 43 Places too. You can see where Jamie's been on past trips.
Our Calendar
If we ever have any big plans, like upcoming vacations or whatnot, you can see the schedule on our calendar. Most of the time you'll just see plenty of nothing. At least that tells you that you're not missing anything, right?
This calendar is provided by our friends over at Yahoo!. Are you supposed to put the period after the exclamation mark when you refer to Yahoo! at the end of a sentence? I'll have to ask them about that. It's actually registered as Jamie's calendar. But, since he doesn't have enough events going on in his own life, he's going to treat it like a family calendar.
The Front Page of Today’s Issue of Jacksonville’s Newspaper
If you want a sense of what's going on in Jacksonville -- or at least what knowledgeable people think the citizens care about -- you should take a glance at the front page of Jacksonville's newspaper, The Florida Times-Union.
Each day, you can see exactly what the current issue of the newspaper looks like.
You'll find the most recent votes by our U.S. senators and our member of the House of Representatives. Of course, they'll probably all mostly vote along party lines. But, now you can see where the lines are.
Weather in Our Neighborhood
The weather in Jacksonville tends to be pretty consistent. Cool and dry in winter. Hot, humid and rainy during the other 9 months. In the summer, we consistently have a high around 90, low around 70, with plenty of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoons.
Google Maps is one of the new services Google is trying out, as part of their Google Labs division. It's pretty slick. The map automatically adjusts to the size of your web browser window. Try re-sizing your window. You'll see what I mean. And, it has plenty of other cool features. Enter an exact address and look at how well it's marked on the map. Try the sliding zoom feature. Very cool stuff.
Or, you can view a map of the hospital that's only a few blocks from our house.
Charline and Jamie Barger proudly and happily announce the birth of their first child, a boy, Jude Dylan Barger, in Jacksonville, Florida on April 9, 2005, at 11:06 a.m.
Jude was born weighing 9 lbs. 9.6 oz., at a length of 21.5 inches.
Mother and child are doing very well and are relaxing at home.
See our Photographs page for more images, including shots of the nursery.

This is an example of a new service from Google, called Google Related Links. Jamie is just trying it out to see how it works.
